Why did you become an Admin?
I worked for a company that was about to implement Salesforce. After many years working in sales, I understood the end user experience, and as part of the implementation team, I saw the back end. The platform just made sense to me, and I wanted to dig in immediately – clicking my way through the system. Salesforce scratched an itch in my brain that I didn’t know existed. Now I can’t stop!
What is the most important skill for an Admin?
The most important skill for an Admin is the ability to listen and to be curious. When requests come in, you need to ask a lot of questions and listen to get to the real issue. Often the person making the request doesn’t really know what the actual problem is they are trying to solve. Listening and being curious will help everyone get the solution that they need.
Remember to take a deep breath. You don’t have to have all of the answers right when someone asks you a question. Rely heavily on the community. This is one of the best industries to be in because of the community, which is full of hundreds of people all around the world to help answer questions at any time. Tap into the community to help you.
What’s your favorite thing about being an Admin?
Let me help you with Salesforce, and show you how to save a little bit of time.
My favorite part about being an Admin is training end users. I love to see the look on their face, that “ah-ha” moment, when you teach them how to do something that makes their job easier. Sharing what I know is so fulfilling for me because I get to help improve someone’s day-to-day experience.
