Why did you become and Admin?
I was a business analyst and was involved in the transition from another CRM to Salesforce. Once I learned Salesforce, and saw all the cool stuff you can do with the platform, I fell in love with it!
Using Salesforce helped me feel smarter. The logic of workflows and process builder all just made sense to me. I chose to become a Salesforce Admin because I liked the logical thinking behind the platform.
What’s the most important skill for an Admin?
Admins should always have a business analyst mindset. It is your job to understand what your users are actually doing in Salesforce. If a user asks for a new feature, take the time to learn what they are trying to solve. Often users don’t realize they are trying to solve the wrong problem.
What’s your advice to other Admins?
Find a mentor. I am fortunate to have fellow Admins with different experience levels at my current company who I can learn from, but most Admins don’t have that resource, so hook up with a local user group! Go ask other Admins, “Hey, how did you do that?” All of us Admins are Salesforce nerds who love to help each other and share what we know.
