5 Use Cases To Get Started With Setup with Agentforce

Think about the last time you had to solve a user access riddle: Pam and Jim are in the same department, so why can Pam edit Dwight’s record but Jim can’t? That kind of troubleshooting could take dozens of clicks and cost hours of your day. Now, imagine asking Salesforce and it solves it for you on the spot.

That’s the core idea behind Setup with Agentforce. It’s a conversational AI interface built right into Setup, designed to help you navigate, troubleshoot, and manage your org configuration. It’s your on-demand guide that understands your org’s metadata and helps you manage your day-to-day tasks with less manual steps.

Let’s see how you can start using it today in five practical use cases.

Get Setup with Agentforce up and running

Getting started is pretty straightforward. The path you take depends on your org type, but we all end up in the same place: a conversational interface right in Setup, ready to help with your admin tasks.

Here’s the quick version.

  • For Agentforce orgs: In Setup, confirm Einstein Setup and Agentforce is enabled. From there, move directly to permissions.
  • For Enterprise or Unlimited Editions, but no Agentforce: If you’re on Enterprise or Unlimited Edition but don’t currently have Agentforce, you likely have access to Salesforce Foundations. Once Foundations is activated, enable Einstein Setup and Agentforce Agents in Advanced Setup.
  • For Personal Developer Edition orgs: Testing things out or learning hands-on? You can request a personal Developer Edition org that comes with Agentforce and Data 360 ready to use. Search for the “Agentforce Agents” page in Setup and enable Agentforce.

Once you complete the initial setup for your org type, the next step is all about permissions. You’ll need to:

  1. Make sure Data 360 setup is finished. This step is critical. Setup Agent relies on Data 360 to parse your org’s metadata.
  2. Assign the Data Cloud User permission set.
  3. Assign the Prompt Template User permission set.
  4. Create and assign a custom permission set with the Use Setup with Agentforce user permission.
  5. Navigate to Setup with Agentforce in Setup and enable it.

Once you’ve done all that and refreshed your browser, the Agentforce prompt bar will appear on your Setup Home page, ready for your first prompt.

5 use cases to get you started

Setup with Agentforce is built to handle complex, multi-click administrative tasks. Here are five ways to integrate it into your daily workflow to save time and reduce manual navigation.

1. Automate your org health monitoring

Instead of manually digging through the Setup Audit Trail, building custom tracking reports, or refreshing Health Check dashboards, you can use conversational prompts to surface security risks, monitor storage limits, and review release updates, shifting your workflow from reactive firefighting to proactive org management.

Example prompt: “Show me any critical security vulnerabilities from our latest Health Check.”

Outcome: The agent provides a concise summary of your current security health score and flags specific high-risk vulnerabilities.

2. Troubleshoot user access issues

When a user reports that they can’t see a specific record, the answer could lie in one of the many user access management features available, such as Profile, Permission Set, Role Hierarchy, Sharing Rules, Public Groups, and more. Setup with Agentforce takes Salesforce’s documentation and your org’s metadata to do that analysis for you, and surfaces the root cause quicker. Turn this troubleshooting process into a direct question using Setup with Agentforce.

Example prompt: “Compare object-level and record-level access for Pam and Jim on the Opportunity object to see why Pam can edit records but Jim cannot.”

Outcome: The agent analyzes both users’ permissions against your org’s sharing model and returns a clear comparison, identifying the exact permission set, sharing rule, or criteria-based restriction causing the discrepancy.

3. Build Salesforce flows using natural language

Describe your automation logic in plain language to construct the initial framework. You can also use the agent to document or audit complex automation patterns inherited from previous admins.

Example prompt: “Summarize the flow Update the Customer Review Comments with Sanitized Comments.”

Outcome: The agent generates a summary of the requested flow’s flow type, summarizes what the flow does, and lists the objects and fields used.

4. Summarize and fix formulas instantly

Inheriting massive, deeply nested formula fields from a previous admin can take hours to reverse-engineer. Similarly, locating a single missing comma or parenthesis in a broken validation rule can stop a deployment. The agent can fix and explain formulas directly in Setup.

Example prompt: IF(AND(Amount > 10000, ISPICKVAL(StageName, 'Closed Won')), Amount * 0.1)"

Outcome: The agent identifies the missing alternative (else) argument, provides the corrected formula string with the right parenthesis placement, and breaks down exactly how the conditional logic evaluates step by step.

5. Build custom objects in minutes

Moving from a business requirement to a live data model traditionally requires navigating back and forth within the Object Manager to create custom objects, fields, and relationships. Now, you can describe the object and fields you need and let the agent draft the schema.

Example prompt: “I need a custom object called ‘Equipment Asset’ to track company hardware. Include fields for serial number, purchase date, and a lookup relationship to the Account object.”

Outcome: The agent drafts a recommended schema, suggests appropriate data types for each custom field (such as Text for serial numbers and Date for purchase dates), recognizes the Account object is an existing object, and displays the model in a table preview. Once you review and confirm, it creates the new custom object and metadata directly in your org.
