Full Show Transcript

Gillian Bruce: Welcome to the far out Salesforce Admins Podcast, and the Monthly Retro with Mike and Gillian, where we talk about groovy product, hip community, and funkadelic careers to help you become an awesome admin. I’m Gillian Bruce.

Mike Gerholdt: And I’m Chet Champion with the 5:00 PM weather. I’m kidding.

Gillian Bruce: Oh, hello, Chet, I wasn’t expecting you on this.

Mike Gerholdt: Chet Champion’s the 1970s version of Mike Gerholdt.

Gillian Bruce: Well, the 1970s version of Mike Gerholdt, Chet Champion, you’re looking styling today. Let’s just say that.

Mike Gerholdt: I have to maintain my local weather backup quarterback for the Cincinnati left-handers football team.

Gillian Bruce: I love it. Well, we’re doing an official retro now. Nobody really gave us any names for our recap podcast so we came up with our own and clearly we’re having some fun with it.

Mike Gerholdt: We’re retroing all the things, going back through time and space, man. It’s far out.

Gillian Bruce: Yeah, man, I mean, super groovy.

Mike Gerholdt: Right on Gillian.

Gillian Bruce: So if you can’t tell, we’re going retro ’70s style today. So if you’re watching the video version, you got some extra treats.

Mike Gerholdt: Absolutely watch the Trailhead version of this to see the video of what Chet Champion’s, beautiful glasses look like that he wears for the 5:00 o’clock weather.

Gillian Bruce: And those sideburns are impressive.

Mike Gerholdt: I mean, they kind of looked like a dead mouse on either side. In the ’70s, men grew mouse on the side of their… Oh, I’m molting.

Gillian Bruce: Your sideburns are shedding. That’s good.

Mike Gerholdt: Yes.

Gillian Bruce: Well, I can barely see because these glasses are so dark, so I can’t really… But I do have some disco ball fun that is happening behind me, which is slightly distracting.

Mike Gerholdt: You do, it’s very Saturday Night Fever in the background. Codey, Astro.

Gillian Bruce: (singing) That’s the theme for 2020, by the way.

Mike Gerholdt: Oh. On point. See, history repeats itself, kids. Stay in school.

Gillian Bruce: It’s cool to stay in school.

Mike Gerholdt: It is.

Gillian Bruce: All right. So we should probably-

Mike Gerholdt: [crosstalk 00:02:37].

Gillian Bruce: We should probably talk about what we actually did in September before we get too carried away.

Mike Gerholdt: The far out things we did in September, Gillian?

Gillian Bruce: Oh yeah. The super groovy things. Mm-hmm (affirmative). Totally hip.

Mike Gerholdt: Well, let’s start with that hip banner that you have behind you.

Gillian Bruce: Oh, the Learn More banner you mean?

Mike Gerholdt: The Learn More banner.

Gillian Bruce: Yeah. Well, September is preparation for the release month for us in the Salesforce world. And we had an amazing Learn More campaign where we got all of the amazing information about the winter 21 release directly out there so that you all can know what to expect when that release comes to you very soon. And I got to tell you, as someone who took the lead on a lot of this content, holy moly, there’s so much that has come for admins with the winter 21 release.
So buckle up and go back and look at all of the series of five blog posts that we put out about all of the amazing things, because there’s no way we’re going to talk in depth about all of them in this podcast, but real quick, you want to make sure that you know about lightening email templates. You want to make sure that you know about flow because, oh my gosh, there’s so many new flow things. Bots, you can now-

Mike Gerholdt: Flow is gnarly, Gillian.

Gillian Bruce: … set up bots. Oh, it’s super gnarly, man. Super gnar.

Mike Gerholdt: Super gnar.

Gillian Bruce: Gnar, gnar. I think that’s like-

Mike Gerholdt: Gnar, gnar.

Gillian Bruce: … the modern take on gnarly.

Mike Gerholdt: I don’t know.

Gillian Bruce: Gnar, gnar.

Mike Gerholdt: That could be, yep. I dig it.

Gillian Bruce: Okay, so flow, bots, you want to get boogie down with the bots because they’re amazing. There’s now a bot assistant to help you build those bots quickly or a template, and Salesforce Anywhere is awesome. Check it out. And then I kind of put together a grab bag of all the other things that you want to pay attention to like some updates with Optimizer, the lightning page analysis button, which is way cool. You want to make sure you check that out. All kinds of stuff. So make sure you check that out. We also have the Release Readiness live broadcasts that happened on September 18th on Friday. So check it out if you haven’t already, you don’t want to miss it, it was groovy, man.

Mike Gerholdt: Don’t be a square and miss the Release Readiness, go back and watch it-

Gillian Bruce: Don’t do it.

Mike Gerholdt: … on demand. Which in the ’70s made no sense.

Gillian Bruce: Right.

Mike Gerholdt: Yes. So, ’70s also about peace, love, and more low code love. So I’m including low code love in this because it fell into September, but we covered flow builder and change management and security. These were three just fun sessions to do. And I did demo in purple heart glasses. Not like the ones I got on now. Purple hearts [crosstalk 00:00:05:39].

Gillian Bruce: I’m sensing a theme. Was it easier to see through the purple heart glasses-

Mike Gerholdt: I don’t know.

Gillian Bruce: … or your current ’70s Elvis glasses?

Mike Gerholdt: Really, it’s… [crosstalk 00:05:47].

Gillian Bruce: Oh, we’re going to get a wardrobe change.

Mike Gerholdt: Yes.

Gillian Bruce: It seems like those might be easier to see out of.

Mike Gerholdt: Yes. As my pupils dilate and explode because those other glasses are just pure black.

Gillian Bruce: The real question is, are the sides of your face getting cold now because they don’t have the sideburns to warm them?

Mike Gerholdt: It might, it’s almost winter. I can switch back, just regulate my temperature. There we go.

Gillian Bruce: Well, I mean, it is the winter release, which is what we were talking about. And we mentioned the-

Mike Gerholdt: The sideburns will keep me warm for the winter release.

Gillian Bruce: There you go. There you go.

Mike Gerholdt: That’s for sure.

Gillian Bruce: Well, we mentioned the Learn More campaign, we mentioned low code love campaign. There was also, I mean, I mentioned the five blogs that we did as part of the Learn More campaign, but there was some other blog content that happened in the month of September as well, because Learn More was just one week. Crazy-

Mike Gerholdt: Just one.

Gillian Bruce: … all the content we put out in one week.

Mike Gerholdt: I know, by the way, we’ll link to all this in the show notes so that you don’t miss it. This is just the highlights of what we love.

Gillian Bruce: It’s the retro.

Mike Gerholdt: Yes. Retro, yes. We’re going back.

Gillian Bruce: Going back.

Mike Gerholdt: We’re feeling the groove of what September had to give us and, jeepers creepers, it was a lot of cool stuff. I feel like I should include a-

Gillian Bruce: I dig it.

Mike Gerholdt: I should include a jinky’s, man. [inaudible 00:07:15].

Gillian Bruce: I don’t know. Well, so Mike, it was funny going through this, because you’re like, “Oh yeah, I’m going to put together all these movies and songs.” And I’m like, “Yeah. So I wasn’t alive in the ’70s-

Mike Gerholdt: That’s okay.

Gillian Bruce: I mean, I’ve have consumed a lot of this content, but I’m-

Mike Gerholdt: I have.

Gillian Bruce: … I’m right in the Chet Champion train on this one. I’m following your lead.

Mike Gerholdt: [crosstalk 00:07:36]. Right. Okay, good. It’s a 72 and sunny out in Fresno, California.

Gillian Bruce: I mean, I guess as long as there’s no smoke, that’s good.

Mike Gerholdt: No smoke, yes. It could be… All right.

Gillian Bruce: Speaking of smoke.

Mike Gerholdt: Yeah, I had a ton of smoking-

Gillian Bruce: I don’t know.

Mike Gerholdt: … podcasts.

Gillian Bruce: Podcasts.

Mike Gerholdt: The podcast had a ton of smoking, amazing content that was gnarly-

Gillian Bruce: Was hot content.

Mike Gerholdt: … and off the hook.

Gillian Bruce: Hot content.

Mike Gerholdt: It was hot. And by hot, we mean security, which is cool. Do you dig it?

Gillian Bruce: I dig it.

Mike Gerholdt: I don’t know. Yeah. I feel like I wouldn’t make it very far in the ’70s before somebody called me out. Okay. So, podcast wise, Gillian, we kicked off September podcasts, for those that were listening, with a Prag whose podcast was amazing. Holy cow, you burning down the servers downloading it.

Gillian Bruce: Yeah. He’s the first Trust Champion we’ve had on the podcast to talk about things like rolling out MFA and SSO and some best practices and tips that he’s learned over his vast experience in the Salesforce ecosystem, working with all kinds of different Salesforce orgs. And it was great to chat with him. I mean, I think he also might’ve been the… I think we’ve only had a couple international podcast guests so far this year and he was all the way in Halifax, Canada, which is the opposite end of this continent from me. So, that was kind of fun.

Mike Gerholdt: Yeah. That’s pretty far out.

Gillian Bruce: It was far out, dude. Yeah, dude. I feel like this is bad. This is encouraging me to use the words that I like to use anyway and I just have full license to go for it [crosstalk 00:09:35].

Mike Gerholdt: Wait until we do a Monthly Retro and we’re in the ’80s, man.

Gillian Bruce: It’s going to be totally rad.

Mike Gerholdt: Threads are going to be right on.

Gillian Bruce: I’m here for the ’80s one, I’m here for it.

Mike Gerholdt: Okay.

Gillian Bruce: We should actually ask, we should get the community to tell us what decade do you want us to do the next retro in?

Mike Gerholdt: Oh, yeah.

Gillian Bruce: I think that’d be fun.

Mike Gerholdt: Maybe not 1920s or anything. That’d be… Something more recent.

Gillian Bruce: I mean, you never know, you put it… We could get to have like a caveman decade. I don’t know, like 500 BC.

Mike Gerholdt: That’ll be interesting. I can reuse these sideburns for the caveman one. Maybe not so much the glasses, but maybe the sideburns. Be interesting.

Gillian Bruce: You need to get a green screen with dinosaurs-

Mike Gerholdt: A cave.

Gillian Bruce: … in the background. [crosstalk 00:10:23].

Mike Gerholdt: Just a cave behind it.

Gillian Bruce: Yeah.

Mike Gerholdt: Yeah.

Gillian Bruce: There you go.

Mike Gerholdt: It was like Land of the Lost. Did that come out in the ’70s? Do you remember Land of the Lost?

Gillian Bruce: Yeah, totally.

Mike Gerholdt: It always looked like they were just acting in front of a green screen. “Go! There’s a giant dinosaur and I’m totally scared. You buying this? Okay.” There’s a whole lot of breaking of the fourth wall there. Like, “I’m really scared.”

Gillian Bruce: I loved that show as a kid. I thought it was hilarious. It’s great.

Mike Gerholdt: Yeah, me too.

Gillian Bruce: It was great. Okay. So we had another great security podcast in September. We talked-

Mike Gerholdt: No way to segue out of that one. You just got to kind of jump right into the next podcast.

Gillian Bruce: Just got to go. That was a bit of a Rocky transition there. So we talked to Kerry Schoepfle. Actually, Laura Pelkey talked to Kerry Schoepfle who was another-

Mike Gerholdt: She did.

Gillian Bruce: … Trust Champion and they had a great conversation about… A lot of Q&A about security and how you can be a security champion in your own organization. That was great. So it’s always great when we get somebody else to do our job for us too, Mike.

Mike Gerholdt: I know. Well, I mean, this was a fun pod to listen to because it was completely… Not that any of our pods are really scripted, but we just kind of threw Lauren and Kerry onto a Zoom call and just pressed record. It’s easy listening. It’s good music. If you’re out in your platform shoes-

Gillian Bruce: Easily listening. Got your disco ball going.

Mike Gerholdt: Got your disco ball going.

Gillian Bruce: Get your light up floor.

Mike Gerholdt: Yeah.

Gillian Bruce: Get a little Salesforce fever.

Mike Gerholdt: Yeah, there you go. Oh, there you go. Salesforce fever. Feeling Salesforce fever. Different.

Gillian Bruce: Yes.

Mike Gerholdt: Speaking of Salesforce fever and transitions that don’t make sense, we had, last week, Tiffany Thomas was on the pod. This was a fun pod. Tiffany is great. We haven’t talked enough Salesforce business analysis on this pod, but that’s so critical to what admins do. It’s gnarly.

Gillian Bruce: It can be gnarly. It can be gnarly if you don’t get in the groove with it and… I don’t know.

Mike Gerholdt: Feel the love.

Gillian Bruce: May the force be with you.

Mike Gerholdt: Low code love. May the force be with you.

Gillian Bruce: But yeah, Tiffany was fabulous. She shared all of her expertise about like, “Hey, I’m a business analyst. And that helps me be a great Salesforce admin.” So I thought that was a great conversation.

Mike Gerholdt: Yep. And Tiffany gives really poignant relative… Relative. Man, these sideburns are messing-

Gillian Bruce: Relevant [crosstalk 00:13:17].

Mike Gerholdt: … with the old brain that’s in between them. Information about communicating with users because she’s thrown into this role completely during COVID and she’s having to figure it out. So, even experienced Salesforce admins are going to get something out of this.

Gillian Bruce: Yeah. And she’s really rocked it. So definitely take a listen if you haven’t already, because after listening to this, you’re going to need a pallet cleanser, so might as well.

Mike Gerholdt: Yeah, you’re going to need something. It’s Chet Champion approved.

Gillian Bruce: I think that’s the clip we should save.

Mike Gerholdt: That’s the clip. Okay.

Gillian Bruce: Speaking of clips, we also had some great video content this month.

Mike Gerholdt: All the video. [crosstalk 00:14:05].

Gillian Bruce: See, that was a segue.

Mike Gerholdt: Boom. Coming at you.

Gillian Bruce: Yeah. The admin preview for Release Readiness was on September 18th. So, very recent, go back, watch it.

Mike Gerholdt: Watch it.

Gillian Bruce: It will help you prepare. There’s a Q&A, it was great. It was amazing.

Mike Gerholdt: I liked the Release Readiness as an admin, because then you can watch that, you can kind of jump around in the release notes. It’s a more fun way to read a book.

Gillian Bruce: Well, and you get to actually see the faces of the product people who have built these things that you’re going to now use every day. So I think that’s always fun. Personally ,that’s my favorite part of Release Readiness, is connecting with the product teams who have built the awesome things. So, you get see their faces. We have Jason [Teller] who came back, who has a fun demo about shave ice. I mean, come on. Who doesn’t like that?

Mike Gerholdt: You have me at shave-

Gillian Bruce: Yeah, so it was fun.

Mike Gerholdt: … these sideburns, you lost me at ice. Shave ice. Yeah.

Gillian Bruce: Shave ice.

Mike Gerholdt: And you think back to all of the fun stuff we’ve done with other product managers, like Vin, got to find out what cool board games he likes to play. I wonder if he has a ’70s board games. That’s what we should have looked up. Maybe some CandyLand, Chutes and Ladders.

Gillian Bruce: Like Life, isn’t The Game of Life ’70s game?

Mike Gerholdt: It’s also Life. Isn’t it The Game of Life? Yep.

Gillian Bruce: Yeah. I just remember the little people pegs you put in the cars and there was like brutal ways you could play it to where you’re just like, “Nope, I don’t want a family. Nope. I don’t want any of you. I am just going to make a whole bunch of money and complete this board and be like…” And I’m like, “Oh, looking back-

Mike Gerholdt: I own all of the rental property!

Gillian Bruce: Yeah. Or you can be like, “I want all of the people. I need two cars to fit all of the people that I now want to have in my life.” Yeah.

Mike Gerholdt: Yeah.

Gillian Bruce: Anyway, so…

Mike Gerholdt: Content retro!

Gillian Bruce: [crosstalk 00:16:17].

Mike Gerholdt: Oh. Going back in time. Not that we’re not back in time already, which is so heavy, man.

Gillian Bruce: I dig it. It’s cool.

Mike Gerholdt: Let’s see. So probably going to be a whole lot… Oh, Deliver the Platter. All right. Tell me Gillian, what was Deliver the Platter?

Gillian Bruce: Well, if you all remember the Awesome Admin Challenge, which is the first official Awesome Admin dance. So we made a video for it so that everybody knew how to do it when they got to Dreamforce in 2018, and my favorite part of the dance, the only part that I could actually remember was the Deliver the Platter move because I am not the most rhythmically coordinated person.

Mike Gerholdt: No.

Gillian Bruce: Give me a ball or something to hit, I can do that. But if you tell me to do a movement to music in a specific manner, and… Good luck with that. But I could do the Deliver the Platter move. So yeah, that was fun.

Mike Gerholdt: Great. Love it.

Gillian Bruce: I mean, if you are so inspired to do the Awesome Admin challenge and share it on Twitter, I’m not going to lie, I’ll be excited about it.

Mike Gerholdt: That’s going to get a retweet. Uh-huh (affirmative). 100%.

Gillian Bruce: Yeah, 100%.

Mike Gerholdt: Discover your Awesome Admin super power. I remember this blog post, unfortunately we’ve turned the quiz off, but this was fun. I’d like to know what Awesome Admin superpowers people have, besides growing insane sideburns. What if that was your super power?

Gillian Bruce: I mean, it looks like that’s your super power right now, Mike.

Mike Gerholdt: Really, it’s an unpower, maybe it’s my kryptonite.

Gillian Bruce: Super Sideburn Man!

Mike Gerholdt: Super Sideburn Man! As long as you try to hit me right here in a very specific spot, I’ll be okay.

Gillian Bruce: It’s like the Wonder Woman-

Mike Gerholdt: That would be my luck-

Gillian Bruce: … shields

Mike Gerholdt: Like everybody’s getting super powers and it’s come to the deck and like, “Oh, you got a super sideburns.” “Great. What am I supposed to do with that?”

Gillian Bruce: Well, I mean-

Mike Gerholdt: The guy in front got invisibility, the guy behind me, he could fly, two before that, like turn ice into anything. I get sideburns. Okay. “Get back in line. Maybe get another superpower or something different. Could be worse.” It’s like, “Let’s make a deal with superpowers.”

Gillian Bruce: Sounds like a really interesting show. I’d play it. Of course, I would probably also get something really lame.

Mike Gerholdt: Yeah.

Gillian Bruce: I don’t know. Make popcorn appear whenever you want it, or I don’t know.

Mike Gerholdt: Oh, but that would be kind of fun.

Gillian Bruce: Yeah. Sure, I guess I’m-

Mike Gerholdt: Princess Movie Night.

Gillian Bruce: Yeah. Damon would be very happy, he loves popcorn. So, he would take full advantage of that. I’d be like, “Here, just have [crosstalk 00:19:23]-

Mike Gerholdt: It could be like, what if you made that organic, non-butter, plain, dry popcorn.

Gillian Bruce: Nobody likes that.

Mike Gerholdt: No, I know, but the superpower… Maybe butter could squirt out of your fingers. Yeah. “I’m going to stop these robbers with the popcorn.”

Gillian Bruce: “Here she comes, it’s Butterfingers!”

Mike Gerholdt: Right. Oh man, and it’s just a whole bunch of robbers falling and sliding everywhere.

Gillian Bruce: “Have dry popcorn? Never fear, butterfingers is here!” Oh boy. Okay, I feel like putting these costumes on, it’s gotten us extra-

Mike Gerholdt: Yep, a little bit.

Gillian Bruce: … a lot of extra, extraness right now.

Mike Gerholdt: That’s okay. Butterfingers. All right. So four years ago we had admin stories. Oh, we highlighted a bunch of admin stories. Boy, I think all these people have gone on to do amazing things.

Gillian Bruce: They sure have, one of them in particular, I think this was the first time I had real life connected with Shauna Hughes. And now Shauna is… I mean, come on. She’s like-

Mike Gerholdt: Everywhere.

Gillian Bruce: You see her face and you hear her name and she’s synonymous with Salesforce super stardom.

Mike Gerholdt: Yeah.

Gillian Bruce: Not that we were the first, but-

Mike Gerholdt: No.

Gillian Bruce: Shauna and us, we go way back. So that was very fun.

Mike Gerholdt: I do. I remember her. Met her in Minneapolis.

Gillian Bruce: Yeah.

Mike Gerholdt: Define your role as a Salesforce admin four years ago. [inaudible] finding roles and what type of Salesforce admin are you? Feel like we were doing a lot of searching four years ago. Okay.

Gillian Bruce: Yeah.

Mike Gerholdt: That’s great. But five years ago, Gillian, five years ago, the first podcast stage in the First Admin Zone.

Gillian Bruce: That’s right. 2015 was our coming out party. It was fantastic. Fun fact, these headphones that I’m wearing are actually from that podcast stage.

Mike Gerholdt: Because we keep things.

Gillian Bruce: I mean it’s good technology, why not?

Mike Gerholdt: They were good tech. Yeah. I remember that. [crosstalk 00:21:42].

Gillian Bruce: But yeah. That was super fun. We got to network with all of the other Salesforce all the other podcasters in the Salesforce ecosystem, which now there’s no way we could do that, because there are so many. But it was really fun and people were so excited because they had a home at Dreamforce.

Mike Gerholdt: I know. And we got that really great selfie with Amber Boaz.

Gillian Bruce: Yeah.

Mike Gerholdt: Ah, people.

Gillian Bruce: Oh my gosh. I can’t believe it that was all five years ago. It’s amazing.

Mike Gerholdt: It doesn’t, it feels like yesterday.

Gillian Bruce: Yeah. In some ways it does. In other ways it feels like ancient history, but that’s, again, kind of the story of this year.

Mike Gerholdt: Oh, fun times.

Gillian Bruce: Fun times.

Mike Gerholdt: All right. So then wrapping up our ’70s, retro fun, groovy podcast. I threw a couple of things in there. Gillian, we’ll start off with songs because I thought the ’70s, you might not know, but were really interesting for the variety of song types that we had a choice of. So according to the list that I’m looking at, Eric Clapton, we had The Village People, we had Leonard Skinner with Sweet Home Alabama. Exactly. We had Abba with Dancing Queen. I mean, come on. What other decade did we have such a fun, diverse group of songs?

Gillian Bruce: (singing). Seriously. Some of these are like some of my favorite songs still. This is amazing.

Mike Gerholdt: I know. Piano Man from Billy Joel. (singing).

Gillian Bruce: (singing). Yep. Get down to Margaritaville. Come on.

Mike Gerholdt: I was just at Margaritaville. I just went to Jimmy Buffet. I was just there.

Gillian Bruce: Oh my goodness.

Mike Gerholdt: Elton John. (singing).

Gillian Bruce: (singing). I feel like I’ve got Elton John glasses on today.

Mike Gerholdt: Yeah. You kind of do, actually.

Gillian Bruce: Yeah.

Mike Gerholdt: I’m sure Elton would be jealous.

Gillian Bruce: Oh my God. A little Hotel California. Geez.

Mike Gerholdt: Queen. Which is amazing. Queen.

Gillian Bruce: Seriously.

Mike Gerholdt: Just all the Queen that’s in here. That was great. But you also have… You get farther down the list, Don McClean, American Pie. How many times you haven’t (singing). That’s all you’re getting out of me.

Gillian Bruce: Yeah, it’s amazing.

Mike Gerholdt: You can envision the rest in your head.

Gillian Bruce: It’s like the… My ’70s Pandora station coming [inaudible 00:24:19].

Mike Gerholdt: I think so. I would listen to any of these songs right now.

Gillian Bruce: Totally.

Mike Gerholdt: Oh, Aerosmith, Sweet Emotion.

Gillian Bruce: Yeah.

Mike Gerholdt: Okay.

Gillian Bruce: Crazy. September, by Earth, Wind & Fire. [inaudible] that’s like a meme every year. (singing).

Mike Gerholdt: Is it in California?

Gillian Bruce: I don’t know. Anyway. Okay. Moving on.

Mike Gerholdt: Moving on.

Gillian Bruce: No one needs to hear more of Gillian singing things.

Mike Gerholdt: I don’t know. That could be a fun meme off thing. Request the song. Should set up like a fundraiser-

Gillian Bruce: And Gillian will totally butcher it.

Mike Gerholdt: Yeah.

Gillian Bruce: Yeah, it’d be great.

Mike Gerholdt: Yeah. There we go.

Gillian Bruce: No [crosstalk 00:25:02], nobody needs that. Nobody needs that.

Mike Gerholdt: Fun stuff. So I also threw in my favorite movies from the ’70s. So next retro, Gillian, you got to throw something fun in, but I threw in… So, I like ’70s movies, I think there are a lot of fun to watch. They’re also very anti-establishment. But for those that have listened to my episode on The Wizard Cast, which if you haven’t listened to The Wizard Cast in a while, it’s great.

Gillian Bruce: Welcome to The Wizard Cast.

Mike Gerholdt: Right. That’s even funnier-

Gillian Bruce: I don’t know why.

Mike Gerholdt: … when you say that in those glasses too. Welcome to The Wizard Cast.

Gillian Bruce: I mean, that’s kind of what their opening sounds like [crosstalk 00:25:49]-

Mike Gerholdt: Kind of, yeah. So, Smokey and the Bandit came out in 1977, it was the second best movie in 1977 because there was another movie that came out in 1977. That everyone else like more.

Gillian Bruce: It’s probably what, may the force be with you?

Mike Gerholdt: May the force be with you.

Gillian Bruce: A little Star Wars action, probably.

Mike Gerholdt: Yeah, a little Star Wars. Yep.

Gillian Bruce: Yeah.

Mike Gerholdt: Luke. 1971, cult classic, Vanishing Point was actually shown as a second movie for much of the ’70s. Really caught on with Grindhouse after that came out.

Gillian Bruce: Oh my god.

Mike Gerholdt: Rocky. “Adrian!”

Gillian Bruce: It’s the best montage, I think, of all movie time, the Rocky working out montage of drinking the eggs, running up the steps.

Mike Gerholdt: I’ve run that steps. Have you run those steps in Philadelphia?

Gillian Bruce: I’ve never been in Philadelphia.

Mike Gerholdt: I have, I have run those steps in Philadelphia and it was great.

Gillian Bruce: At some point I got to make it out there.

Mike Gerholdt: Yeah. The statues not up there-

Gillian Bruce: [crosstalk] actually supposed to go to Philly Force this year, but…

Mike Gerholdt: I know. Could’ve ran the Rocky steps.

Gillian Bruce: Next year of in a couple of years. I will.

Mike Gerholdt: Had a Philly cheese.

Gillian Bruce: I will do it.

Mike Gerholdt: Superman came out in ’78, which was good.

Gillian Bruce: So great.

Mike Gerholdt: That was Christopher Reeve’s movie. I like Superman.

Gillian Bruce: I have a Superman here somewhere.

Mike Gerholdt: Do you have a Superman? By your disco ball?

Gillian Bruce: Superman!

Mike Gerholdt: Yes. All right.

Gillian Bruce: It’s a bird. It’s a plane. It’s Superman! Okay. That’s enough.

Mike Gerholdt: Perfect. And then to 1973, American Graffiti, I feel like it’s still up there. People listen to it, people watch it. Coincidentally-

Gillian Bruce: Totally.

Mike Gerholdt: … also has a tie in to the first movie, same actors. Anyway.

Gillian Bruce: There you go.

Mike Gerholdt: [crosstalk 00:27:41].

Gillian Bruce: Well, and then, there’s movies that were made in the 2000’s that like to pretend like they’re ’70s, like Anchor Man. So there’s that.

Mike Gerholdt: Right. In a world, there was the local five news weather backup man who ties a ridiculously tied tie.

Gillian Bruce: Chet Champion would have fit in beautifully on the anchorman set.

Mike Gerholdt: Paisley. Lots of polyester. People had to have sweat a lot in the ’70s. I feel like there’s a lot of sweating.
