Equality & Ohana at Salesforce World Tour DC

By

Last Tuesday the AwesomeAdmin team visited DC for the first Salesforce World Tour of the year, and what a way to kick off the year! The Reagan Center was packed with Salesforce community members eager to learn more about Lightning, Einstein, and celebrate Equal Pay Day with special programming.

Equal Pay Day

Tuesday, April 4 was National Equal Pay Day, which symbolizes how many days women have to work into the new year to earn the same amount that men earn in a single calendar year. In the pre-keynote, Jessica Hood interviewed Lilly Ledbetter who has been an outspoken advocate for equal pay for decades, and for whom the Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Act of 2009 is named. She spoke about her decades-long fight for equal pay and what we still need to do as a community to get there. Marc Benioff included Billie Jean King in the keynote to talk about how important it is to take a stand up for equality; don’t be scared about the consequences because another door will always open.

#AwesomeAdmin Award

Meet LeAndria Streeter, our #AwesomeAdmin award winner for Washington, DC! LeAndria is a 3x certified administrator, and she’s worked for the past 4 years as a consultant configuring instances for non-profits and Fortune 500 companies. We selected LeAndria with the coveted #AwesomeAdmin award because of how much she gives to the community. Using her experience and passion, she encourages women to be exceptional Salesforce admins and developers who constantly learn, grow, create, and obtain the opportunities and the pay that they’re worth. LeAndria volunteers with Capital Partners for Education, encouraging students to enter STEM professions and volunteers for Bossed Up, an organization that trains women to craft sustainable, healthy lives and careers. She’s also the brand new co-leader for the Women in Tech DC group, which will be relaunching with a meeting in April (get involved!). Huge thanks to Toya Gatewood, former #AwesomeAdmin award recipient, who nominated her for this award.

Lightning, Einstein, and Spring ’17 for Admins

There was tons of content for Admins! There were community-staffed booths where attendees got to ask the experts who generously volunteered their time to help other Admins learn about Lightning, setting up Salesforce, and pretty much anything. We also presented a breakout session about how to make your users more productive, customize easier, and extend automation using Lightning and Einstein for Admins. Fun fact: about 80% of the attendees in the session were new Salesforce Admins, which means the DC Admin community is growing strong! If you want to see what we presented, check out this great video about Spring ’17 that covers a lot about user productivity and customization.

Ohana: Celebrating Community

The Ohana vibe was strong in DC! Toya Gatewood kicked off the morning breakout sessions with a presentation about the power of the Salesforce community to a packed room. Throughout the day, I ran into some new Admins who had been to the Lightning Tour in DC a few weeks prior, and they told me how thankful they are for all the help the Salesforce community has given them as they prepare for their certification exams. I got to end the day meeting with local user and developer group members, who are really committed to building an amazing support network for Salesforce professionals in the area (you can find them here). I left DC with a heart exploding with gratitude for our Salesforce Ohana, which reaches far and wide and is incredibly powerful.

Join us on a future Salesforce World Tour!

From Pillars to Lakes: Using Data Cloud As Your Source of Truth

The power of Salesforce comes from its data. When Salesforce launched its CRM platform in 2000, it allowed businesses to control their sales data right from their browser.
