Learn MOAR with the Salesforce Optimizer App in Summer ‘20

By

We know that you, as Admins, are always improving productivity for your users by securing data, ensuring your Salesforce instance is clean and free of technical debt, and staying up to date on best practices. However, it can be challenging to find the time for org maintenance. With the new Salesforce Optimizer Lightning app, you can now obtain a comprehensive view of your org, which will help you prioritize where to spend your time to help drive adoption, improve performance, and simplify maintenance. Let’s see the latest and greatest features of Salesforce Optimizer in Summer ’20.

When Optimizer first launched, it was a large PDF filled with valuable recommendations, but it wasn’t easy to prioritize the most critical changes. The new, simplified Optimizer Lightning app helps admins narrow their focus and quickly take action. Let’s look at how to set this up and start optimizing Salesforce.

Now, Optimizer is easily accessible and the results are easy to read and prioritize. From Setup, search for “Optimizer” in the Quick Find box, and then go to the Optimizer Setup page. Next, select Allow Access to enable the app. Open the app from Setup, or access it directly from the App Launcher. With a single click, you can start the Optimizer scan. The results will be ready anywhere from a few minutes to a few hours depending on the size and complexity of your org. Once the scan is finished, you’ll receive a notification that your results are ready to review ?.

The Org Metrics tab contains a view for all the metrics scanned and is sorted by status, pulling the most critical items to the top of the list. The view contains the Feature, Type, Estimated Effort, and Status. The Estimated Effort by time metric allows you to set expectations around how long it will take to complete a task — an invaluable feature for admins everywhere! The Status combined with Estimated Effort will help you determine which quick wins will improve your org.

From this page, you can now dive deeper into any metric by clicking on the Feature name in blue. Then, review results and recommendations to obtain a clear understanding of what can be optimized. On the bottom right is a Help Section which links to the Help resources about the specific recommendation should you need some extra guidance. If you are ready to explore the actual setup, select the View in Setup button to navigate to the respective section in Setup.

After your initial review, you should build a regular review into your routine. How frequently you run Optimizer will depend on a few factors, such as how large your org is or how often you make substantial changes to your org. You can even run it in your sandbox before deploying major changes to your production org!

Optimizing an org is part science and part art. We know there are plenty of best practices available, but each Salesforce org is different and there are unique considerations that need to be balanced with business needs. Turn it on today to begin making improvements to your org.

And be sure to join the Salesforce Optimizer group in the Trailblazer Community to share your ideas and feedback!
