Every time you say podcap, I’m thinking of literally that something looks like a bottle cap that you put on your head.

Right. At this point, Matt Graessle is the only one listening because we keep saying his name.

That it’s over eventually.

Eventually. Well, no, I was going to say there’s been some actually very fun content and useful content that our team has helped highlight and put out there for admins.

We’re just narrowing the niche of people that understand the randomness that we talk about. I was told by my account executive I should listen to the Salesforce Admins Podcast, and all I understood was pop culture references.

Sorry, everyone who hasn’t seen that movie or anything else.
Mike Gerholdt:

But yeah, it’s all about all the amazing low-code solutions we have on Salesforce to help you get your job done easier and faster and empower your users. And automation is a big piece of that. I know we highlighted some pretty cool stuff. Flow is completely transformed, continuing to get more innovations. There’s even more coming with the Winter ’21 release, which we’ll talk about in a second. Super exciting. Security tools now that we have as admins. All kinds of great things. I think what’s great is there’s so much of the tools that we can use that are easy to wrap your head around. Before the low-code stuff, you think back to the builders 10, 20 years ago, it was drag and drop. So you didn’t have to code it. But you didn’t really understand. Or it was such light that you’re doing. Now with some of the flow stuff, you’re doing super heavy lifting and you’re not writing a single line of code. So I love the low-code love.
Gillian Bruce:
I know, it looks so pretty. I like things that look pretty. Like I said, I want to get iced. Anyway…
Mike Gerholdt:
Speaking of iced and winter. How about that for a segue?

I know. Guiding your end users. And I just loved those did-you-know videos. I think they’re so cool. I’m so glad to see them evolve. It’s fun, little five minutes, “Hey, I’m just going to sit and chill out and watch something fun.”
Gillian Bruce:
Yeah. And Lizz did an amazing job with those and there’s definitely more coming. But yeah, it’s a great little bite-sized way to just learn something real quick that you can do in Salesforce. So, maybe you don’t want to sit through and go through a Trailhead module. Well, you can still absorb that content, just sit down and watch a video.
Mike Gerholdt:

What else are we doing these days, except watching things on the internet, right?
Mike Gerholdt:
Well, you could read a blog, 831 Billion Reasons to Love Automation. I don’t know what I was doing that day when it got published, and I was scrolling through our website because I checked admin.salesforce.com every day. And I was like, what? Who published… That’s a funny title. And I’m glad we got that out there.
Gillian Bruce:
Yeah. 831 billion reasons made me feel like, that seems like a lot. I don’t know. Do I need to read all of those? Oh, I get it.
Mike Gerholdt:
Truth be told, we started this blog post 10 years ago. It was the fact checking, have you ever counted to a billion? We had to count to 831 billion.
Gillian Bruce:
Well, we got to catch up because we’re all locked inside right now. So what else are we going to do? We’re going to count all the reasons.
Mike Gerholdt:
Yeah. Counting all the reasons.
Gillian Bruce:
Counting all the reasons. But yeah, automation is wild and awesome and there’s so many things you can do. And I will tell you, Salesforce is focusing a lot of resources in this arena. So stay tuned because it’s awesome now, but just you wait, it’s going to get even more awesomer, because that’s totally a word.
Mike Gerholdt:
I think so. I think so. We also used to call, back in my day, “Hey,” this my old man laugh voice, automagically, if you recall.
Gillian Bruce:
Oh, yeah.
Mike Gerholdt:
So that’s how you automagically make stuff happen in Salesforce. Now it’s just called automation. That’s probably the better word.
Gillian Bruce:
Or admin magic or whatever.
Mike Gerholdt:

And then we said, “John, we’ve got to get you on the podcast to talk about how you started at Tableau,” and just all of the fun things that he like, “Well, we can take this spreadsheet and we can make that.” And he’s helping his daughter out, doing these amazing projects in school. And I just loved that episode.
Gillian Bruce:
Yeah. I think after we recorded that episode with John, I may have spent the rest of the day poking around on the Tableau public website to see all of the crazy data sets people put have together because it was really fun.
Mike Gerholdt:
The visualizations on public Tableau are amazing. Are you kidding me? It’s like graphic designer level stuff.
Gillian Bruce:
I went down the Game of Thrones rabbit hole, just telling you. Khaleesi by the way, has logged the most killings of anyone. Just in case you’re wondering, Daenerys wins. So bringing it back to Game of Thrones always.
Mike Gerholdt:
Sure. That’s okay.
Gillian Bruce:
I miss that. God. By the way, if you’re looking for a great series to binge and you’ve never watched Game of Thrones, now is the time. Someone just told me last week that they’ve never watched it. And they just started watching it now. And I was jealous for three days, that they got to go experience that for the first time.

And as a relatively new admin, he had some good stories about how he’s navigated learning, about how to best manage data at his organization, and find ways to serve up the data to decision makers in different regions to help them make important decisions. Yeah, there you go. All right. So four years ago on the podcast, it was not a podcap yet.
Mike Gerholdt:
You almost said podcap. I know you wanted to say it.
Gillian Bruce:
Yeah. Totally almost did.
Mike Gerholdt:
Four years on the podcap… I mean pod… What am I? What’s going on?
Gillian Bruce:
We were talking about Winter ’17 release features. Oh my God. That feels like forever ago.
Mike Gerholdt:
I know. Forever. That’s why I put that, because I was like, “Oh, Winter ’17 release features.” And then, so clicking into it, I also had to click into this and really read. So what were we excited about with Winter ’17? I don’t know. It had to have been, this must have made something good. And I was like, “Oh, that’s right. We had the snowman as the logo.” Do you remember the snowman used to roll in on the load screen?
Gillian Bruce:
Yeah. I think that was the fourth snowman logo we’ve had. And now everything is a Trailhead logo. But I remember being like, “Okay guys, we’ve had a snowman four or five times. Let’s move on. There are other things.”
Mike Gerholdt:
There’s snow in winter. And then this is a shout out, but the top thing that we had, call a process from another process.
Gillian Bruce:
Automation.
Mike Gerholdt:
And the number of phone calls that we were on in Google Meets with Leanne to talk about how we were going to put this in the admin keynote. Remember for Dreamforce that year?
Gillian Bruce:
Yeah.
Mike Gerholdt:
And it’s a process and we’re calling a process. How do we talk about this? It’s a thing inside of a thing. I don’t know.
Gillian Bruce:
It’s like a turducken of some sort.
Mike Gerholdt:
It’s like a turducken. Yes.
Gillian Bruce:
Yeah. That was cool. The other thing I think that people went crazy for is global pick lists. This is when global pick lists became a thing, which are pretty amazing.
Mike Gerholdt:
Now that I’ve used them, yes.
Gillian Bruce:
Right. And then inline editing for mass actions.
Mike Gerholdt:
Right. Because who doesn’t like to add a bunch of records at time? I do.
Gillian Bruce:
It’s amazing when you think what we were excited about four years ago and where we are now with the platform. It’s amazing.
Mike Gerholdt:
Yeah. Six years ago, I don’t know why my voice got so high there, we were talking about, I put five tips to stay productive while on vacation, because we took vacations six years ago. We were cute. Wasn’t it cute, we took vacations?
Gillian Bruce:
And you could go somewhere warm and tropical. Sit on the beach. Yeah.
Mike Gerholdt:
I scrolled through this and maybe it’s a thing that I need to rewrite. I think some of it I mostly agree with and the point of friction most people bring up is bullet point one, set aside 15 minutes each day to triage email.
Gillian Bruce:
Yeah, I don’t do that on vacation.
Mike Gerholdt:
I know. And I do, and it drives me nuts to not. To come back and not have an idea of how things are going and just be caught off guard. So maybe we need a-
Gillian Bruce:
Yeah. To each their own there.
Mike Gerholdt:
… a point counterpoint on that one.
Gillian Bruce:
I turn my notifications for email off.
Mike Gerholdt:
Smart.
Gillian Bruce:
In fact, sometimes I remove my work email from my phone.
Mike Gerholdt:
Even smarter.
Gillian Bruce:
Because I get tempted to do other things.
Mike Gerholdt:
Right. Yeah. So staying productive, maybe.
Gillian Bruce:
Well, you know what else happened six years ago, Mike? We became-
Mike Gerholdt:
I clicked a plus button on Facebook?
Gillian Bruce:
Yeah. We became Facebook friends. It’s such an important milestone for us. It’s our Facebook-iversary.
Mike Gerholdt:
That’s fun. I only remember this because Facebook pushed out the little canoe with the spinning picture on it.
Gillian Bruce:
I know. Well, to be fair, I saw that you did that. I was like, “Oh right. Here we go.”
Mike Gerholdt:
Yeah. Okay, great. So then just to go deep, the deep cuts, 10 years ago, of course the admin team wasn’t round. So then I like to look up fun things like top-grossing movies. Top-grossing movies, these three, I’ve never seen. Actually, one I’ve sort of seen, but I was on a plane. But top-grossing movies that I don’t think need to be made.
Gillian Bruce:
I think a lot of people forgot they existed. To be fair, I don’t think I’ve seen any of these. And if I have, I don’t remember.
Mike Gerholdt:
So the top three that I found were The Other Guys, The Expendables and Takers. Yeah.
Gillian Bruce:
They all sound kind of expendable to me.
Mike Gerholdt:
Yeah. Made by other guys, since there’s nothing taken there. So that was interesting. I was like, “Okay.” And of the three, I watched The Expendables once on a plane because it was the only thing I hadn’t seen on the plane.
Gillian Bruce:
Well, not going to have to worry about that for a while.
Mike Gerholdt:
Nope. So I’ve heard, I think there’s an Expendables follow up.
Gillian Bruce:
Yeah. It had a bunch of people in it, right?
Mike Gerholdt:
Sure.
Gillian Bruce:
Like every like action movie star or something.
Mike Gerholdt:
Every former ’80s action person that’s running low on 401k money.
Gillian Bruce:
Or they’re bored. I don’t know. Oh boy.
Mike Gerholdt:
20 years ago, because that’s fun to look back. Remember like, “Oh, it’s going to be 2000”?
Gillian Bruce:
Oh yeah. That’s when I graduated high school.
Mike Gerholdt:
Yeah. 2000’s going to hit. It’s going to be all zeros. And the local radio station I used to listen to was like, “And that’s when cheese is going to stop melting.” That was their joke.
Gillian Bruce:
We just kept calling ourselves the Class of Oh, Oh. Or the class of uh-oh.
Mike Gerholdt:
Uh-oh. The Billboard hit for 2000, end of August was Incomplete by Sisqo.
Gillian Bruce:
By Sisqo.
Mike Gerholdt:
Yes.
Gillian Bruce:
See, the only song I know of Sisqo is the Thong Song.
Mike Gerholdt:
Yeah, I know.
Gillian Bruce:
So I don’t-
Mike Gerholdt:
I’m fairly certain that’s everybody. But apparently, we also listened to one other song on that CD.
Gillian Bruce:
That’s right, because it was definitely a CD back then.
Mike Gerholdt:
Yeah. 2000. You got iTunes? What, are you from the future?
Gillian Bruce:
Got the CD changer in your car.
Mike Gerholdt:
Right.
Gillian Bruce:
I think at that point I hadn’t even had my first car yet, but I got one a couple years later and I think I had the Discman that had the cassette adapter you plug into the car because I had an ’88 Civic or something. And I was like, “Oh my God, this is so cool.” But God forbid you go over a bump, because it’ll still skip, even though it was the Sport Discman.
Mike Gerholdt:
Yeah. No. The car I had had the option of ordering the rear disk changer and you could put 20 CDs in that disc changer. Of course, it was in the trunk, so you basically had to plan your 20 CDs, get in your car and be like, “Okay, it’s what we… Oh, I’d really like to listen to this CD.” Too bad, it’s not in rotation. And unless you want to get out and climb in the trunk…
Mike Gerholdt:
This makes no sense. It made complete sense back then like, “Oh yeah. It’s a 20-disc changer and it’s in the trunk.” So 20 years from now, we’re going to look at something and be like, “That made complete sense back then.”
Gillian Bruce:
Right. It’d be like, “Oh, you had to call something up on your phone to play it in your car? That is crazy.”
Mike Gerholdt:
Yeah. I think we’ll probably just talk to stuff.
Gillian Bruce:
Probably. Or stuff will talk to us. So we’re set.
Mike Gerholdt:
So we’re going to add a new segment to our wrap up for people still listening besides Matt Graceful.
Gillian Bruce:

And I was on a call with Josh Burke who, if you don’t know, hosts the Developer Podcast, and what do we say, Godfather of Trailhead?
Gillian Bruce:
Godfather of Trailhead, yes.
Mike Gerholdt:
Godfather of Trailhead. So we were chatting today and he told me something that I want to share with everybody that I think is funny, and I’ll share mine. But he calls it his moment of COVID joy. And so a moment of COVID joy is when ordinarily, it would just be something you dismiss, but it gives you just utter and complete joy right now.
Gillian Bruce:
I love this.
Mike Gerholdt:
I thought it was neat. I loved it. So my moment of COVID joy, as you heard, Iowa got some bad storms last week and we were without power for a while. And when my power came back, I had enough time to read how to reset all of my fire alarms and all of my smoke detectors. And now all my smoke detectors’ lights are green. And I cannot tell you how ecstatic I am that all of my smoke detector lights are green because they weren’t for a while. So that was my moment of COVID joy.
Gillian Bruce:
I love that, Mike. That’s super nerdy and amazing, and I love it.
Mike Gerholdt:
Just that the little green light in every room just makes me happy.
Gillian Bruce:
Yeah. Well, my moment, I feel like I find little moments of COVID joy where I can. But I will say last week, I made the most awesome killer Instapot recipe that I have made so far, ever with the Instapot. And it was the simplest chicken tortilla soup that was just freaking amazing. We ate it for five days, it was that good.
Mike Gerholdt:
Wow.
Gillian Bruce:
And it was the easiest Instapot. Sometimes, I don’t know if you have an Instapot, but those of you who do-
Mike Gerholdt:
No.
Gillian Bruce:
… a lot of times in the directions, they have you sear the meat in the Instapot, then take it out, and then sear the aromatics and the vegetables, and then put the meat back in.
Mike Gerholdt:
Sure.
Gillian Bruce:
It’s complicated. I’m like, it’s an Instapot, You’re supposed to just throw everything in and set it and forget it.
Mike Gerholdt:
Instant, hot, boom.
Gillian Bruce:
This chicken tortilla soup recipe, oh my God. It is that. It is perfect. You just put it all in and you set it and then it… It’s delicious. Anyway, so that was my moment of COVID joy because normally I would never be cooking.
Mike Gerholdt:
I also find, and I’m the same way, when you make a soup or a chili or a stew, you eat it for four or five days.
Gillian Bruce:
Yeah. Well sometimes you get sick of it by day three. And you’re like, “I can’t do this anymore.”
Mike Gerholdt:
I know. I still got… “What would you like for dinner? We’ve got stew or stew, or stew, because we made a lot of stew.”
Gillian Bruce:
Or DoorDash
Mike Gerholdt:
Or DoorDash. That’s your moment of COVID joy.
Gillian Bruce:
Yeah.
Mike Gerholdt:
Anyway-
Gillian Bruce:
Yeah. Chicken tortilla soup. Maybe I’ll share the recipe in the show notes. People can also have some joy. If I can find it. It’s a printed out one, so I’m going to have to-
