Introducing Salesforce Backup: Your Data’s Safety Net

What is Salesforce Backup?

On August 15, Salesforce announced the general availability of Salesforce Backup, a native backup and restore solution designed to safeguard customers’ valuable data. Built with ease of use in mind, Salesforce Backup automatically creates backup copies of business data, empowering any organization to restore data and recover from even the worst-case scenarios, in just a few clicks.

Why it’s relevant: Any security expert will say it’s not a matter of if but when a company’s security posture will be tested. An effective backup and recovery service can turn an incident from being an existential crisis into a speed bump on the way to business continuity. In an increasingly digital and artificial intelligence (AI)-generated world, where data loss can mean catastrophic setbacks for individuals and businesses alike, a customer-controlled backup is a beacon of reliability and security.

Backing up data in the dawn of the generative AI revolution is one of the most critical pieces of preparing your data and your organization to take full advantage of generative AI technologies,” said Salesforce’s VP of Product Management, Marla Hay. “It’s critical that your data is backed up and can be restored down to the record level in the unlikely case that data used and augmented by AI is misconfigured or incorrectly synced.”

What does it mean to use Salesforce Backup in Salesforce?

The Salesforce solution: With a suite of powerful features, a user-friendly interface, and high-scale technology, Salesforce Backup helps customers, IT leaders, and admins immediately recover from data loss caused by system failures, human error, and cyberattacks with just a few clicks—and get their data back.

Generally available (GA) Salesforce Backup features include:

  • Data Backup: Customer-controlled backup policies run consistently, automatically, and with no limits, reducing the risk of data loss.
  • Effortless Restore: Salesforce Backup’s user-friendly restore process allows seamless data retrieval to its most recent state, minimizing downtime and maximizing productivity.
  • Simple and Easy User Interface (UI): A point-and-click UI makes it simple to select data to be included in a backup, expediting the restoration process.
  • Salesforce Security: Backup data is always encrypted at rest and in transit, providing additional layers of protection for sensitive business data.
  • Fine-Grained Logging: Logs of access, backup, and restore functionality streamlines the validation and auditing of user behavior and policy execution.
  • Native Controls: All data stays on and in Salesforce infrastructure, keeping sensitive data within the Salesforce trust boundary.
  • Data Export: If users want to move or otherwise access their data for any reason, they can download all of their backed-up data at the object level.

What does this mean for admins?

Salesforce Backup was designed specifically with Salesforce Admins in mind because it’s a native Salesforce solution, intricately woven into the platform’s fabric. As an admin, you’re no stranger to the countless hours spent on custom coding or navigating complex integrations. Salesforce Backup effectively eliminates those hassles.

Being a managed package offering, you can quickly implement Salesforce Backup in your Core Sales, Service, and Platform orgs in as little as 10 minutes and configure your backup policies with just a few clicks. This means you can now safeguard your org’s data with even greater efficiency and speed. No need to wrestle with custom code or entangle yourself in intricate implementation processes. It’s streamlined, it’s efficient, and, most importantly, it’s designed with you, the Salesforce Admin, at its core.

With Salesforce Backup, Salesforce demonstrates its commitment to not only the platform’s robustness but also the user experience of its most crucial players—admins like you. Embrace this tool and redefine how you protect your organization’s Salesforce data and business continuity.
