We know that as a Salesforce Admin, you love tackling high-impact projects. From streamlining processes to improving data quality and enhancing the user experience, if it’s going to help your business, it’s fair game.
But not every initiative needs to feel groundbreaking—some are simply necessary and part of your core responsibilities as a Salesforce Admin. These can range from restoring deleted records, managing user permissions, and ensuring data compliance. Following best practices isn’t just about keeping your org running smoothly–it’s about building a strong foundation for a successful admin career.
And while some of these initiatives aren’t exactly glamorous, they often make the biggest difference in your organization’s success. After all, 94% of organizations that experience severe data loss never recover that data, and the cost of a data breach in 2024 was $4.88 million—a historic high.
Now that organizations are implementing agentic artificial intelligence (AI), ensuring data availability and reliability is even more important to maximize technologies like Agentforce. By staying informed about AI and emerging technologies, you can better support your organization and stay ahead of the curve.
That’s why we’re excited to announce new products designed to help Salesforce Admins manage and secure their data more effectively.

Own products are now integrated into the Salesforce Platform
Last year, Salesforce acquired Own Company, a leader in data protection and management. Now, Own is part of the Salesforce Platform, and the following products are generally available (GA).
- Backup & Recover: Protect against data loss with automated backups and precise restoration capabilities at any scale.
- Salesforce Discover: Easily feed data to any visualization tool with desired objects over a specified time period, eliminating the need for additional data extraction or preparation.
- Archive: Efficiently manage data growth while keeping inactive data accessible and actionable.
- Data Mask & Seed: Seed your sandbox environments with relevant data and protect sensitive information by anonymizing it.
- Shield 2.0: Mitigate threats to sensitive data, and easily encrypt data to simplify regulatory compliance and prevent data loss.
- Security Center 2.0: Centrally manage security controls, access, and permissions across one or multiple orgs.
What does this mean for admins?
You’re the driving force behind your organization’s data management. From streamlined data recovery and archiving to enhanced compliance and risk management, here are six ways these new capabilities can help you in your admin role.
1. Avoid downtime from data loss
Data loss is every admin’s worst nightmare, but accidental misconfigurations, deletions, and data corruption can happen. When they do, they can bring your business to a screeching halt. Backup & Recover provides continuous data protection for your Salesforce org, capturing and visualizing data and metadata changes in real time. If you do experience data loss, you can recover specific subsets of data and metadata down to the minute and field level.
2. Improve org performance and simplify compliance
As your data grows, you likely create more reports and dashboards; as a result, everyday searches can take longer to run. With Archive, you can identify which objects take up the most space in your org, and either delete or archive them to free up storage. Archive also helps you simplify compliance with automated data retention and deletion features.
3. Unlock faster data insights
Salesforce Discover leverages historical backups to provide deeper insights into your Salesforce data. With Discover, you can access data much faster by eliminating manual data extraction and preparation, allowing for quicker decision-making.
4. Reduce errors in production
Testing without real-world data can be unreliable, making it hard to catch issues before they reach production. Data Mask & Seed has been enhanced with new seeding capabilities that help you quickly generate secure, realistic test data in sandboxes, ensuring reliable development and testing environments that accurately reflect production.
5. Easily determine which fields to encrypt
Data encryption is a critical component of any security posture. But it can be challenging to know which fields to encrypt. With the new Shield capabilities, you can see which fields are ready for encryption and encrypt only your most sensitive data—so you can optimize for both security and performance.
6. Spot security risks quickly
Identifying risks in your Salesforce instance is critical, but it can also be highly manual and time consuming. Security Center has been enhanced with capabilities that make it easier for admins to enforce least-privileged access policies by viewing permissions for any user across any org. And, streamlined data classification automatically identifies high-risk users so admins can quickly address potential security issues or compliance concerns.
