Giving Thanks for the Salesforce community

By

Many of us spend the bulk of our day-to-day lives at work. We show up to the same place, see the same faces, take on the same activities, and focus ourselves on the same missions. This sense of purpose is essential and can be an incredibly grounding force in our lives. It’s why, when we’re in that surreal space in between jobs, we can feel a bit untethered without it. While the freedom can be exhilarating, after a few weeks the lack of purpose and structure can start to become a bit unnerving.

Imagine that span between jobs growing to a month. Then months. Then years. For millions of Americans, what was once simply unnerving has become oppressive, and the longer they are out of work, the worse it gets. Imagine yourself becoming professionally isolated, your skills and networks atrophy, your confidence falls. Interviews become harder, then fewer, and finally the calls stop all together. Even though you have incredible talent, you begin to feel like there will never be work again, and the employment market seems to confirm your worst fears.

Imagine that you’re ready to give up, but you’re going to take one more chance. You read about a 4-month Salesforce Administrator training program at JVS. You don’t know what Salesforce is, but the training is free, it includes preparation for a certification exam, learning how to gather requirements, assess business needs and manage a project. It includes guest speakers from the Salesforce community, mentorship, and paid work experience.

As you move through the program, you realize how accessible the platform is. The speakers from the Salesforce community are continuously encouraging you to keep moving forward. You work harder than you’ve worked in years, but it’s exhilarating, and in that final hurdle you pass your certification. Everyone in your cohort celebrates by going to Dreamforce, and for the first time in years, you are greeted as a professional peer. People want to talk to you about opportunities, and a job looks within reach. In four short months a world that felt very dark has been transformed, and you feel vital again.

For many of the 28 participants who are just wrapping up JVS’s inaugural Salesforce Administrator training, this is their story. Over 90% have passed their Admin certification, 30% went on to get their Dev certification, and much of their success has been because of the amazing support of the Salesforce community. JVS will have new cohorts starting in January, and we’d love to have the community join us in cultivating passionate, capable Admins!
