5 Salesforce Spring 16 features for AwesomeAdmins!

By

It’s full spring ahead, now that we are past the holidays. As Salesforce Admins it’s time to get up to speed with the Salesforce Spring 16 Release notes and start a plan for rolling out some amazing new features. With over 300+ pages we have you covered with some great tips & advice from Sam Achuff and Elna Miller on the podcast, so let’s get to the good stuff – the features!

Broadcast Groups

Broadcast groups are a special type of public, private, or unlisted group where only group owners and managers can create posts. Group members can respond to posts. Creating broadcast groups is ideal when one person or a set of individuals regularly needs to share information with a large group of people. This feature is available in both Lightning Experience and Salesforce Classic.

Broadcast groups are an exciting way to get even more users excited for Chatter while keeping the conversation/information focused.

Lightning Experience Navigation Menus

Create navigation menus to give your users a shortcut to Salesforce features they use most. Have a sales navigation menu that prioritizes the items most applicable to your sales team. Put events, accounts, and organizations at the top. Create one for inside sales with leads, tasks, and contacts first. Give your execs a time-saving navigation menu that contains reports and dashboards at the top and remove the items they rarely use.

This being the first release after Winter 16 and the launch of the Lightning Experience we are seeing new customizations and options already available. With navigation menus, Admins have another reason to start the conversation with users about switching and rolling out the new experience.

Easily Reorder Criteria in Your Process with Drag and Drop

So this is just awesome! Save time and clicks by quickly changing the order of criteria and action groups in your process. Just drag and drop—it’s that easy. Previously, to change the order, you had to delete and redefine criteria and actions.

Criteria are evaluated in the order shown on the canvas. When criteria are true, the process executes the associated action group and stops evaluating additional criteria. When criteria are false, the process skips the action group and evaluates the criteria for the next action group.

Be sure to join the Salesforce Workflow Automation group on Success for any questions and to connect with other Admins building great processes.

Edit Inline in Lightning Experience

So you say you haven’t switched to Lightning Experience because it doesn’t have inline editing? With Spring 16, your wish is granted!

Reps can now edit individual fields on a record details tab and easily edit multiple fields at one time. What’s more: Users are warned if they try to navigate away before saving a record. No more lost edits!

Inline editing is fast and easy. When you double-click a field or click the edit icon next to it, the entire record opens in edit mode. Reps can breeze through the record and update several fields at once. It’s more tedious in Salesforce Classic—you have to double-click each field to open it for editing.

Other features worth noting

Chatter groups and profile pages are now getting the option to have a banner image in Lightning Experience. This feature really brings groups and profiles to life and makes the Lightning Experience really pop!

I love the ability to edit posts- but until Spring 16 you could only edit text only posts. But in Spring 16 you can edit a post with a file or a link! Wohoo!
