True to the core: where do we stand today?

Closing the Loop on Past True to the Core Sessions: Where Do We Stand Today?

By

True to the Core is a favorite session at Dreamforce and TDX, especially for admins who want an opportunity to connect with Salesforce executives and product managers on the topics that are most important to you. True to the Core offers an unfiltered look into our product development plans, and gives you the chance to ask questions and share feedback that ultimately shapes what the product teams work on in future releases. Your requests from this session, along with your feedback from IdeaExchange, regularly make their way into our product roadmaps.

If you’ve attended a recent True to the Core session, you may be wondering where we stand on some of the topics that impact your day-to-day as a Salesforce Admin. Below, you’ll find a recap of some of the top questions from True to the Core at Dreamforce and TDX in 2022 and 2023, along with an update on their status today.

Status key

✅: Work in progress or delivered
⏳: Planned or in consideration
❌: Not in consideration

IdeaExchange

How does Salesforce ensure that product managers (PMs) are accountable for top voted ideas?

✅ Every year, the IdeaExchange team works with each cloud product area to provide an update for our community on your top upvoted ideas via a pinned comment.

Can more PMs proactively gather feedback from the community? And can we see a public directory of which PMs own which features so we know who to give feedback to?

✅ We’ve recently launched a tool called RoadmapExchange, where you can connect directly with PMs to provide feedback on their in-progress and potential roadmap items.

❌ Unfortunately, we aren’t able to share a public list of product owners. Note that ownership of features changes regularly and is often shared between multiple teams.

Sometimes, ideas that get merged over time become part of something bigger. How can we make sure that when this happens, none of the original ideas get left out?

⏳ When an idea has been partially delivered, we recommend creating a new idea for the undelivered portion. This ensures that we can continue to collect input and bring visibility to the gap. We’re also looking at how to improve this workflow in the future to ensure that no ideas fall through the cracks.

Aside from just votes, can Salesforce consider the number of comments and length of time an idea has been around?

⏳ Yes, we agree that all-time upvotes should not be the only metric considered. For example, an idea can be newer and “trending” with the community (with lots of recent activity and comments). We’re exploring new ways to better surface the ideas that are most important to the community by leveraging metrics beyond votes.

Setup

What are Salesforce’s plans to improve Setup and reduce clicks overall?

✅ As we announced at Dreamforce ’23, we’re investing in Setup and working to improve accessibility and reduce clicks for admins. So far, we’ve improved workflows and significantly reduced clicks within User Access (for example, through user access policies and access summaries). Since Dreamforce ’23, the User Access team has delivered on an additional 98,980 IdeaExchange points—you can view that full list of ideas and features now available to you in Setup. We look forward to ultimately addressing click counts in other areas of Setup as well.

Are there any plans to improve the performance of Setup?

✅ The areas where we’ve heard the most performance complaints are user list views, user records, and permission sets—we’re working to address all of these. In Winter ’25, you’ll have the option to turn on the user list view in Lightning Experience (LEX). We’ll be adding more features to LEX over the next couple of releases.

As a regulated company, we need to be able to report out what permissions people have. I love the flexibility of permission sets and groups, but will there be a solution for reportability?

⏳ We’ve delivered report types that allow for reporting on Permission Set Assignment and Group Membership, but we haven’t addressed all reporting needs yet. We’re looking into which features we should introduce to allow for additional analysis and reporting. We’ve also heard about the need to allow for data export on the summaries, and we’re looking into how to address this.

What’s the plan to create unique permissions for all the features that Modify All Data has?

⏳ We understand that this is a long-standing issue, so we’ve introduced some more granular permissions. However, we know this is not enough to fix our over-permissioning problem. We’re considering investments here but, currently, this is not officially on the roadmap.

I’m constantly moving between the front side of Salesforce and the Setup side, and every click matters. Are there any plans for custom tabs in Setup?

❌ We’re currently working to address overall click counts and performance in Setup, but, unfortunately, allowing admins to customize Setup is not in our near-term plans.

Why don’t we have an API-only license that’s less expensive than a user license?

✅ The Salesforce Integration User License was released in Spring ’23. EE, UE, and PxE orgs are automatically provisioned with five licenses at no additional cost, and an add-on SKU is available to purchase more licenses for $10 per user per month. Developer Edition orgs are provisioned with one license, and the add-on SKU is not available. You can find more information on the permissioning of this license here.

Dynamic Forms

Are there any plans to have conditional visibility on the tabs in Dynamic Forms?

✅ As of Summer ’24, you can customize your display with tab visibility.

In Dynamic Forms, visual layouts can make a big difference. Will there be options to add color or spacing? What about allowing for containers with control over what comes into the new window?

✅ In Winter ’25, we’ll release the first iteration of Conditional Field Formatting. With this feature, you can apply custom visual indicators to fields based on their values, in order to call attention to key fields. Check out this post on the Salesforce Admins Blog to see Conditional Field Formatting in action. In Winter ’25, you’ll be able to apply colored Salesforce Lightning Design System (SLDS) icons to fields via Lightning App Builder. In an upcoming release, we’ll extend support to highlights as well. For future releases, we’re considering additional formatting updates but don’t have specific release targets for them at this time.

Are there any plans to allow more than two columns in a single section?

⏳ Allowing more than two columns in a single section is under consideration for a future release, but we don’t have specific release timing targeted at this time.

User Experience

Will Salesforce ever have a dark mode?

✅ We hear your enthusiasm for Dark Mode and recognize its importance, particularly for our Service Cloud users. We’ve made critical updates this year to increase styling flexibility for the Salesforce Lightning Design System. We’re planning a closed pilot in the next fiscal year, focusing on delivering Dark Mode in a targeted, manageable way that addresses core user needs.

When will we see List Views get some love?

✅ Last year, we committed to a List View roadmap that included first modernizing List Views onto the Lightning Web Component (LWC) framework, and then delivering on the top three IdeaExchange items. We’re pleased to say that this is on track! The migration to LWC is complete, and we’re in the midst of tuning performance, which is a critical commitment to our customers. In the meantime, you’re welcome to enable the beta for LWC List Views and List View multi-column sorting. Next up, we’re developing multi-column sort for Related Lists, and default sort for List Views. After that, we plan to tackle the third IdeaExchange feature request: inline edit for Related Lists.

Can we expect the following List View features? 1. Ability to share List Views with admins; 2. A wizard that walks users through the process of building List Views; 3. A List Views row count

⏳ List View sharing enhancements are in our long-range plan.

❌ A wizard is not on the roadmap.

❌ A List View row count is not on the roadmap. One concern is compromising performance by fetching the row count on the initial page load.

Reporting

What updates are coming to Core Reporting?

✅ We’re making continuous improvements to Core Reporting in terms of bettering performance and delivering additional features. We’re piloting a new architecture change in Reporting that we’re hopeful will make reports much faster for you and also pave the way for newer features, like Filtering on Aggregates and better subscription limits.

Can we get some love for dashboard design and readability? Rich text is only available in Unlimited Edition—the rest of us have been asking for it for years.

✅ Rich Text and Image components are now available for customers in all editions!

Looking ahead

Thank you to everyone who continues to show up at True to the Core, ask us important questions, and hold our product teams accountable. Your ideas and feedback impact the updates made to Setup, reporting, user experience, and more, and we’ll continue to keep you updated on our progress.
