You’ve probably been on a tour before at a museum, historical site, or even your best friend’s new home. Didn’t you learn a lot more than by stumbling through on your own? Well, consider this your own personal docent tour of Salesforce Setup Home in Lightning Experience.
Setup Home is a launchpad for getting you where you want to go super fast. As you’re getting familiar with the Setup area, no need to memorize click paths. Instead, we’ve made it easy: It’s all about shortcuts. Here’s a quick overview of some spots of particular interest to you, and then we’ll cover each in more detail. Ready to start the tour? Well, follow us to learn about the most commonly used features!
You’re probably already familiar with Quick Find. It’s the fastest way to find a page within Setup because you don’t need to remember where the page you’re looking for falls in the menu. And no scrolling! Just start typing in the Quick Find box. As you type, the list only shows the pages that match your search term. Click on the name and off you go. It’s really a work of art.
In Lightning Experience, most object settings, such as fields, layouts, record types, buttons, and links, are available from the Object Manager in Setup. Always check the Object Manager if you can’t find what you want in Quick Find. For more information, see Find Object Management Settings in Lightning Experience in Salesforce Help.
At first glance, you might just see the usual global search, which lets you search records across multiple objects in Salesforce. But, if you take a closer look, you’ll notice that you can search setup records with global search. You might be wondering how this is any different from Quick Find? Quick Find locates setup pages, such as Account Settings or Profiles, based on their page title. Global search finds specific setup records, like the Lead Source picklist field or the Sales Rep profile.
To take advantage of this super-cool shortcut, enter the name of the setup record in global search and press Enter. You’re taken to a search results page that lists setup records with name fields that match your search term. See results for different setup objects by clicking through the search navigation below global search. Click More if you don’t see what you’re looking for right away. Note that not all setup objects are searchable, and results are matched only against the name of the record.
As a Salesforce admin, you’ve got a lot going on. You don’t have time to be messing around. So we’ve included a Create shortcut. You’re just one click away from being on the road to creating users, custom objects, custom tabs, email templates, and workflow processes.
With all those saved clicks, you might have time to take a real tour of something outside of the office.
Everyone loves a good carousel ride. The carousel of quick-access tiles is way more than the latest and greatest feature offering from Salesforce. With the tiles, you get an easy way to:
- Open the Object Manager and customize records, fields, and layouts
- Launch the Salesforce1 wizard to customize your mobile menus, actions, and layouts
- Access release notes for quick reference
- Download SalesforceA to set up administration from a mobile app
- Quickly view the status of your org’s performance and usage data
- Visit AppExchange to search for additional apps
Setup is more than just your home base. It’s also a portal to all the sites you commonly use as an admin. Go ahead, take a spin around.

Ever find yourself needing to quickly get back to a page in Setup? The Most Recently Used list at the bottom on the page shows some, but not all, of the Setup records that you recently viewed, edited, or created. Use it to quickly jump back to what you were working on with a single click.
Well, with that, we’ve reached the end of our tour. We hope you’ve come away with a better appreciation of the Setup Home page, along with some tips for navigating around.
