Why did you become a Salesforce Admin?
I became a Salesforce Administrator because of a job opportunity a colleague encouraged me to take. After I learned the basics to do the job, I was drawn to being an Admin because of the community. There are so many people who are passionate about Salesforce and that rubbed off on me. I wanted to learn more and more about the platform, so much so that I was inspired to go back to school and get a degree in computer science. As soon as I saw everything that could be done with the Salesforce platform, I knew this is what I wanted to do.
What’s your favorite part about being an Admin?
We get to solve problems and help companies in very tangible ways. I also like the freedom that comes with being able to work in the cloud, which means I’m not tied to an office.
What is the most important skill for an Admin?
Critical thinking is a very important Admin skill. The job is not just about creating a new field or running a report, you need to think about the business needs and delivering the right solution. If you want to truly make an impact, you need to think about the big picture and problems in the context of the business.
What is your advice for other Admins?
Don’t be afraid to ask questions in your company or in the community. Thinking that you already know everything, or asking the wrong kinds of questions can get you into trouble. A critical thinking Admin should always ask questions everywhere they go.
