Why did you become an Admin?
I took on the role of Salesforce admin to save my income. Our company was downsizing and my position was being eliminated. Fortunately, I’m known to be somewhat of a geek and was urged to take on what was referred to as “a high profile, technical role that involved training others.” I decided to go for it, but had no idea what I’d agreed to get into! Thankfully, it wasn’t too long before I started meeting folks like Mike Martin who helped get me plugged into all things Salesforce, and I was off to the races.
Shortly after our first Service Cloud implementation, something completely unexpected and flat-out awesome happened. I started sending out emails to check-in with my end users and find out how things were going, but stopped. I stopped because at nearly the same time, unsolicited emails started coming in: “This is really intuitive!” “Thank you for taking the time to train us!”. That’s when I realized I was making a difference in peoples’ day-to-day lives. That’s when I knew being a Salesforce Admin was what I wanted to do.
What is the most important skill for an Admin?
Perseverance is key. If you ever feel like everything’s coming at you at the same time, remember to take it in bite-sized pieces. The Salesforce community is an environment conducive to success. Leverage them. You’d be amazed at how big your cheering section is! No matter your background, you got this.
What’s your favorite thing about being an Admin?
Variety. I get to work with people from all over the world who are involved in lots of different roles and processes. My job is constantly new and fresh, and there’s always something else on the horizon that keeps my attention. As a Salesforce Admin, I’m continuously engaged with my work.
