Summer ’22 Release goodies for admins

Welcome to Summer ’22! The next release is now upon us, and we’re back with Learn MOAR to help you get prepared with the latest and greatest enhancements coming your way. In this blog series, we’ll cover some of our top Summer ’22 release features we think matter to Salesforce Administrators as well as resources to help you—you guessed it—learn MOAR!

There are a lot of enhancements coming with Summer ’22, so let’s start with some of the changes that every admin needs to know about.

Permission sets (GA)

The new way to manage permission sets is officially Generally Available (GA)! In Summer ’22, you can enable Permission Set & Permission Set Group Assignments with Expiration Dates in Setup, which allows you to set expiration dates for permission sets and permission set groups. This is a fantastic way to save time because you can set it and forget it, giving access to users for a specific time period and automatically revoking that access after the project or need is over. Takes another thing off your calendar or to-do list—WIN! You can also now create list views for permission sets which makes it way easier to manage your users.

Another great permissions update coming in Summer ’22 is the ability to create transaction security policies for critical user permissions. If you’ve got Event Monitoring enabled, you can now track changes to your permission sets and permission set groups and block changes that you don’t want by creating security policies. You can also send notifications when changes are made. This is a super helpful way to make sure you control which changes are being made to user assignments, like manage all data, view all data, reset user passwords, unlock users, and more.

Security Center

Summer ’22 has some Security Center goodies coming your way! If you’ve got Security Center, which is an add-on subscription, you can now deploy new policy types like trusted IP ranges, Health Check baseline, password configuration, and session settings directly from your security policies. You also have new custom report types that allow you to create reports on Security Center permissions, logins, and monitoring metrics. These are some great time-saving tools that will help you be an even better security-minded admin.

Search

Even Einstein Search is getting some love in Summer ’22. As an admin, you can now determine which objects and fields are searchable for your users. This is an easy way to limit or grant access to what your users can find in your app.

With Summer ’22, you can also manage your Knowledge articles using Natural Language Search (NLS). This means you can find the articles you need by using keywords and search criteria, and filter them based on publication status, creation date, or author. Getting what you need quicker and easier? Yes, please!

Restriction rules

Restriction rules are another tool on our #AwesomeAdmin tool belts that helps us keep our data secure. There are some shiny, new restriction rule features in Summer ’22 that you should know about:

  • Apply restriction rules to external objects.
  • Users can create and edit records that a restriction rule is applied to.
  • View All and Modify All permissions can view records with restriction rules.
  • Users with View All Data and View All Users cannot view personal information.
  • Build more flexible restriction and scoping rules with single picklists.

A few more Summer ’22 goodies

Before I wrap this post, there are two final Summer ’22 features that make my admin heart happy that I need to highlight for you:

  1. You can now update your own billing contact in the app without needing to contact Salesforce. WOOT!
  2. You can configure a single default no-reply address from the organization-wide addresses in Setup. This means you can set any organization-wide email to serve multiple purposes. WOOT WOOT!

Organization-Wide Addresses Setup page that allows an admin to specify Purpose for email address.

You can find more details about all of these and other features in Jen’s Summer ’22 mega blog and the release notes.

Don’t forget to watch the Summer ’22 Admin Preview on May 20 during Release Readiness Live to see demos of a subset of these new, exciting features. And be sure to check out the Learn MOAR Summer ’22 for Admins Trailmix and follow along on the blog this week for more Learn MOAR!
