Create dynamic related lists with Lightning App Builder

Salesforce Admins, you asked and we delivered! The Summer ’22 release includes dynamic related lists for Lightning App Builder. Dynamic related lists are a top “True to the Core” request from our customers, and this new feature represents a major step forward in our low-code capabilities for Lightning App Builder.

What is Lightning App Builder?

Lightning App Builder is your one-stop shop. Starting in the Summer ’22 release, admins can use the new component, Dynamic Related List – Single, in Record Home in Lightning App Builder. This component has full customization capability within Lightning App Builder, so there’s no need to return to Page Layout editor to add, remove, reorder, or sort your fields. All those options (and filtering!) are now available in Lightning App Builder.

The real power of dynamic related lists is that your users will see the right information at the right time. Why look at an account’s closed opportunities when what you’re really looking for is the next deal? Save time sifting through disabled contacts when a filtered list only shows active contacts. The point is that giving your users the right information will make them more productive in the work that really matters. Let’s dive into some of its capabilities!

Customize filters

This is what we’ve all been waiting for: Use Lightning App Builder to customize Related List filters so your users can take action fast! For example, show your sales users the biggest prospective deals by filtering a dynamic related list to display opportunities whose value is greater than $500,000 and where the stage is ‘prospecting’ and ‘qualification’. Or show your service users the most important cases by filtering on those where the priority is ‘high’, status is ‘new’, and that are assigned to you. The possibilities are endless! Bonus: Give your dynamic related list a descriptive title like, “High Priority Open Cases”.

Place multiple related lists on a Record Home

Leverage dynamic related lists to show your users multiple angles on an object by placing multiple Dynamic Related List components on a Record Home. Your users might want to quickly see all the open opportunities for an organization that are more than $500,000, but also those that were closed in the last quarter, regardless of value. No problem! This new component can be added multiple times to a single Record Home, reference the same object, and have its own distinct filters.

Convert your existing Related List – Single to a dynamic related list

Want to add filters to your existing Related List – Singles? We’ve got your back! Use the new Upgrade Now button to convert an existing Related List – Single to a dynamic related list and you’ll be instantly rewarded! The upgrade is instantaneous and gives you the power to add, remove, reorder, and sort your columns; this enables filtering customization, too.

Deliver the experience your users have been asking for

In the end, it’s all about your users’ experience. They’ll love dynamic related lists because they can see the information they need in the place they expect without doing their own filter, sort, and search through related records. This lets them focus on getting the important stuff done faster, better, and without extra clicks.

Give it a try and let us know what you think! Again, Dynamic Related List – Single will be available in Summer ’22. Jump into a sandbox and start working with this powerful, new component. We’d love to hear your success stories and feedback. You can post them in our community group.
